La Conner Real Estate
Located on Fidalgo Island, south of the Swinomish Reservation, La Conner is quite an amazing little town with a lot of character and charm. This area is known for its festivals, the Daffodil and Tulip Festivals are international favorites, and reign supreme. Home to many fantastic choices for dining, coffee, adult beverages and great marinas; it’s hard not to have a good time.
Old Town is also La Conner proper. With a local population of around 1,000, there are certainly more flowers than people. For a festive Fourth of July, check out the fireworks, beer garden and live music. If you’d like to experience and appreciate the culture of the tribes of the reservation, there are art galleries sprinkled in this area that feature prominent local Native American artists. There are a number of historic and industry-specific museums in Old Town, so stop by and learn a thing or two.
In March, experience the golden delight of the annual Daffodil Festival. For dates and even a map based on bloom days, visit the LoveLaConner page about the festival. If you’re in the area in April and are thrilled at the idea of fields of multi-hued tulips instead, you’ll not be disappointed. Here is the link to the official Skagit Valley Tulip Festival website.
With under 2,000 residents, Shelter Bay is situated mostly on land leased from the nearby reservation. Because this land is leased, purchasing a home in this neighborhood is surprisingly affordable when compared to surrounding properties. It can’t go without mentioning that since it’s technically on the reservation, it’s not a long journey to the Swinomish Casino & Lodge, where you can gamble, golf or treat your palate at the restaurant on-site.
